Day 62
Goldenrod blossoms (MB)
Ah-ah-ah-Choo! Can we say intense allergies?
Patron Tequila truck in front of us on I-880(KB).
Is 6AM too early for a cocktail?
Starting July 1, 2010 a group of friends will be documenting one year with 1 photo a day.

Day 60
Isaly's Klondike Choco Tacos and customer (MB)
Our Western PA family thinks the original Klondikes are the best. This
Choco Taco needs some work on the "tortilla" part. Read about the origins.
Google Isalys or http://www.isalys.com/
While heading home from the site (KB)
They reminded us of something out of a cartoon.
Do you suppose they deflate in the daylight....

Day 58
Mystery on Bailies Run Road (MB)
New owners were dismantling this old homestead, removing the newer
added-on portions first. When the exterior of this main (and oldest) section
was removed, hand-hewn wooden beams with mud fill (called "wattle and
daub" were discovered. Previous owners/family members are deceased or have
no information. Now the hunt is on to identify the name of the original
owner or builder. This area is awash in early American history - think
pre-American Revolution: Fort Duquesne, Fort Pitt, General George Braddock,
French & Indian War, George Washington crossing the Allegheny River,
finding arrowheads in your back yard, etc. Oooh, it's very exciting and
interesting. Read about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wattle_and_daub

Day 57
This is an Osage Orange (MB)
They are about the size of a grapefruit. My sis always wants to have one
of these in her house to repel ants & other unwanted insects. Research
now has found mosquito repellent properties similar to DEET. Interestingly,
mid-west ranchers planted Osage Orange as living fences before barbed wire
was invented. Read about them:

The Drillers (KB)
There is always one not looking at the camera...

Day 56
Salt Blocks (MB)
Big item in Walmart here. They're put out in the fields for cattle or in your
outlying acreage for the deer. Think deer "candy" although some people put
them out to keep the deer close by for hunting season. Not fair play on the
stalker's part but legalized hunting is the way to keep the deer population
from overtaking the the place. And, field- dressed venison is delicious.
Outside the Dave Matthews Concert (KB)
...they preach non-judgement but their words are judging....

Day 55
Chicken outside of Carl's Bakery
in East Peoria, Illinois (MB)
The bakery has been in business for 52 years,
48 of them in this location. The chicken has been
with them almost all of those 48 years.
Meet Carla, owner of Carl's Bakery
and the chicken and a really neat lady who found us
outside taking pictures at night. Told us all about her
late father owning the bakery and about his purchase
of the chicken. She told us to be sure to come back
in the morning for coffee and donuts. We went,
got this pic while standing in the donut line and
also had the yummy morning treats.

Day 50
Century House and its gardens (MB)
Built in the 1870s as a duck hunting hunting lodge, it was surrounded
by a tule marsh. The marsh was drained in the early 1900s and turned
into farmland. The house was refurbished and now is a city facility.
The kitchen didn't have knobs. Drives me crazy, so I improvised this solution at a total cost of 22cents per knob. Infuriation is sometimes the mother of Home Depot improvising. (yes, its some electrical doohicky for holding pipe) (HCW)
Perky smiles on tired geos. Scotts Valley, CA (KB)
We are trying to advance casing to another depth to
attempt a depth discrete water sample.

That vertical landing looks pretty good (MB)
Don't want to bore everyone with the birds but they truly are
beautiful creatures. They are flying all around the
neighborhood and are fun to watch. BTW, #4 is starting
to stretch its wings and hop up on the branches around the nest.
12 Blueberry Bushes moved into their new homes, just 58 to go! (HCW)

Flame Skimmer Dragonfly sitting on
a dry Bird of Paradise leaf (MB)
Could it be visiting from a certain
location near Placerville?
WANTED IN EL DORADO COUNTY - Escaped from the Shoo Fly Penitentiary last Thursday - last seen in Pleasanton, CA. Approach with caution, dangerous criminal - convicted of consumption of 200,000 mosquitoes, 42,000 mayflies and we suspect has an appetite for gnats. (HCW)
