Backyard Zoo reptile update (MB) There's not much left. The item at the bottom is part of a branch. It has the string things attached & it won't be touched till the birds are done with their meal!
Yuk! An interesting Friday, to say the least (MB) Came across what I thought was our Mrs. Snake...but of obvious recent demise. Wasn't the way I have dispatched the critters in times past. This one appeared to have been pecked. Such as, with a beak. Spinal column bare of flesh in places. Not attractive. After left photo taken I put camera in house; when I turned around Mrs. Blue Jay was checking out the take-out offerings. Hurried into house to get to a closer window to watch the action...a morsel was pecked away and flown into the tree above to feed to a Jay family member. Then she came back and tried to drag the snake away with something string-like that the snake wasn't using any more. Don't want to go further into that visual except to say that someone has been rearranging the snake on the deck all afternoon. I left it there so it would feed the Jay family. The arrow points to the string. Sorry for the small pictures. Maybe the raccoons will be happy with leftovers. Not sure I'm going to be have an appetite for dinner.
Lupines in ground before this morning's rain (MB) Now accepting "green thumb" prayers for their survival! Yes, the yellow tape was tightened...it's for the lawn mower. He's slightly sight challenged. Eyesite ok, just poor down-focusing skills.
This is a blast from the past! (MB) This is a car wash on East Hamilton Avenue at Bascom in San Jose. We would have our car washed there when we first moved to CA and lived close by. The draw was the parrots that the owner kept on exhibit. What fun that was!
Remember the palm flowers on April 21st? (MB) This is what they look like now. The green ones are still green but look like little seed pods. The yellow ones are the ones on the right - they look like oatmeal granola. Weird! The dark part below looks more dried out.
Oak chicken on a hill (MB) Imagine my surprise to see this old oak log sitting gracefully on the side of the hill at Wall Street in Livermore. Looks like a chicken to me. Of course, no one would scream "no" if I said "I could be going crazy."
Field Trip to Oakland - Preservation Park (MB) Cold and dark but the Sun was shining on us. We were able to park (legally) with out feeding meters and everyone seemed to be happy they chose to attend. Pictures from the park later. Sign below from Oakland Museum wall.
Had a Neighborhood preparedness meeting. (MB) Lots to learn, and lots more to do. He who prepares himself and his neighbors will do OK, I figure that prepared for a good 7 days if not more is good.
Looks like shaved pickled ginger at the Sushi restaurant, right? (MB) Not even close. Those are the shavings from drilling drain holes in the bottom of flower pots. The black specks are dirt, not ground pepper.
More neighborhood walkers (MB) These 3 are early Sunday "morningers". That's little Phyl on the right, center is Gandolf the Grey, and I don't know the name of the Afhgan in front. She's one of three in the family (other two are males and they walk together without their sister!) A better picture of the Afhgan followed by Gandolf the Grey
At the door of my friend's art studio (MB) The blue mosiac container is made with pieces of old dishes from thrift shops cemented on to old bases. She's a crafty recycler!
